The CIO Association of Canada’s National Board (CIOCAN) today announced two new key appointments to its Manitoba and Vancouver chapters.

Dani Pokornik, vice president IT (CIO) for the Western Canada Lottery Corporation, has assumed the position of President of the Manitoba Chapter effective last week (July 1).

The six-chapter CIOCAN is a not-for-profit community of CIOs and IT leaders whose mission is to facilitate networking, sharing of best practices and executive development, and to drive advocacy on issues facing Canadian executives. The Manitoba Chapter was created in 2014 under the presidency of Nigel Fortlage, who will assume the role of Past President of the board and continue to support the development of the chapter in Manitoba, according to CIOCAN.

In addition, Gary Munro, manager, information technology Services, district of West Vancouver, has assumed the position of President of the Vancouver Chapter also effective as of July 1st.

Currently the largest chapter in the association, the Vancouver Chapter was the original, founding chapter of CIOCAN and will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2018.

A member of CIOCAN since 2006 and an active chapter Board member since 2010, Munro was responsible for the creation of the association’s Leadership Development Program. He takes over from Alex Buhler, who successfully led the Chapter for the past four years.

“We have an amazing and diverse group of members in our chapter and I’m looking forward to working with our Board & National to ensure we continue to provide value to them,” said Buhler in a statement.
