HANA-based business data analytics platform called Sentinel meant to help investors make faster, better decisions

Job posting reveals SAP stocks analytics project

SAP AG is working on stocks analytics and market insights platform which the enterprise software maker says will essentially be the โ€œAmazon for stocks and the Facebook for investors.โ€

The platform is called Sentinel, and SAPโ€™s Bangalore, India-based team which working on it is looking for a โ€œhands-onโ€ senior developer or junior architect, according to a job ad posted by the company.

โ€œThe goal is to be nothing less than the Amazon for stocks and the Facebook for investors,โ€ the posting said. โ€œWe take our metaphors seriously!โ€

Sentinel will blend โ€œalgorithmic trading with deep new analyticsโ€ and will be powered by SAPโ€™s in-memory HANA platform. The product will use HTML5 and Javascript on the frontend and have a โ€œsuper-scalable backend.โ€

HANAโ€™s in-memory database is able to quickly parse big data. Since data doesnโ€™t need to be stored on a disc and retrieved with HANA, the platform is capable of accelerating transactions.

The โ€œsole purposeโ€ of Sentinel is to help investors identify profitable trading opportunities โ€œwith minimal cognitive overload,โ€ according to SAP.

โ€œThe end goal is to build a system that is simple but not trivial, deeply quantitative but not compounding, advanced but not abstruse.โ€

The ideal candidate for the job, according to SAP, will be someone with demonstrated leadership in implementing large scale algorithms, applications in data mining, machine learning, text analytics, natural language processing, sentiment analysis, search and semantics.
