Mid-sized organizations looking for an easy way to get an OpenStack private cloud have a new option.
Chipmaker AMD said Tuesday it will sell a bundle with OpenStack, Canonical’s Ubuntu LTS 14.04 version of Linux on an AMD SeaMicro SM 1500 server
The turnkey solution will make it possible to deploy a private cloud in hours compared to days, the company said, by automating complex configuration tasks.
“AMD and Canonical have dedicated a tremendous amount of engineering resources to ensure an integrated solution that removes the complexity of an OpenStack technology deployment,” Dhiraj Mallick, AMD’s corporate vice president and general manager for data center server solutions, said in a release.
The SeaMicro SM15000 10RU server includes Intel E3 v2 or v3 processors with 512 CPU cores, more than five petabytes of storage, integrated Layer 2 switching, three cloud controllers, 57 Nova nodes and three Cinder nodes.
“Canonical has developed the most sophisticated set of tools in the industry to remove the complexity of an enterprise grade OpenStack deployment,” John Zannos, vice president of cloud channels and alliances at Canonical, said in a statement. “The AMD-Canonical OpenStack solution bundle will help drive increased velocity for clients seeking to leverage scale-out cloud technology for next generation workloads.”
